Anti-Human Trafficking and Modern-day Slavery Campaign

HUMAN TRAFFICKING is the exploitation of human beings by selling them for sex, bonded labour or domestic servitude. This exploitation most commonly involves forced prostitution. HUMAN TRAFFICKING is currently the fastest growing money making scheme in the world – you can only sell drugs once, but a human being you can keep selling over and over again for years on end! Human-trafficking in South Africa is a very serious trans-national and global crime that takes place in and around borders of the country.South Africa has become a source, destination and transit country for human-trafficking and related crimes as it is perceived in and outside the continent as the economic giant inAfrica. Governments, businesses, NGOs and citizens everywhere have a responsibility to work together to address this modern-day slavery.

An estimated $9.5 billion is generated in annual revenue from all trafficking activities, with at least $4 billion attributed to the worldwide brothel industry. (Ibid.) An estimated 2 million children, the majority of them girls, are sexually exploited in the multibillion dollar commercial sex industry. (UNICEF). An estimated 1.2 million children are trafficked each year. (UNICEF)

South Africa is a human trafficking hotspot. This is because of our porous borders, lack of appropriate legislation and corruption in the law enforcement system.

A CALL TO UNITE
Humble Pie Entertainment identified the need to unite various organizations and role players that share a common vision to take a stand against human trafficking and in 2010 launched HumanTradelink.org, a human trafficking awareness and networking platform. Humble Pie Entertainment combines the power of media in the form of films (public service announcements, short films, documentary films and feature films) to create awareness and direct individuals to the correct organisations to obtain more information or assistance.

“Jesus Christ came to set the captives free. All Christ followers need to take the issue of human slavery seriously. We need to take a stand, expose the work of our enemy and bring justice to our world. It is time we become a voice for the voiceless.” – Pieter Pohl, Humble Pie Entertainment.

TEAMWORK is vital if we want to take the fight against human trafficking to a new level. We all have different skills, abilities and resources to bring to the table and by working together we can have a greater impact.
